hikari products. can i get some different opinions on these and which would be better for c/sa cichlids, why, and what the difference is between the three?? pleeeeeeease. :grinno:

The bio-gold doesnt come in large pellets, so its best if you have smaller cichlids. It is also more expensive but I would recomend it if you have small to medium sized fish.

my midas refuses to eat hikari staple. i feed it to my other cichlids but he totally knows when its not gold and just plays with it. im sured if i starved him a couple of days hed come around though.

the biogold ads in TFH definitely have me curious.

neither one of those answered my question.

I don't like Hikari cichlid foods. My fish eat them, but I think there are better products out there.

That said, I guess if it was me I'd feed the Bio-Gold. I got a sample of it (and tons of other food!) from Hikari and the fish seemed to like it a lot better than the staple or gold. The Hakari food they liked the best: Cichlid Complete.

I dont like the 3 you have asked about to much due to my fish need alot and it is expensive on my budget.

So i use,

Have you looked into any of Ken's Fish foods? He makes his own and sells them in bulk. He has some really good cichlid pellets and I feed his variety bits to my fish right now. Compare his food to some of the major brands (like Hikari) and I think you will find his is just as good, if not better! He also sells New Life Spectrum in bulk and freeze dried foods in bulk.

bio gold is the highest quality carnivorous pellet by hikari and has beneficial microbes in it. i have found hikari to be the best brand out there, and i cant stand new life spectrum. my 14" jaguar cichlid will take the medium sized bio-gold pellet without a problem, they are part of his mix that has 5 different pellets.

I like hikari foods and feed a variety of them to all my fish (including the food sticks) and they are all doing very well. I also feed a variety of other foods. When feeding your fish my opinion is that the greater the variety you can offer the better they will do. so try lots of different foods including fresh frozen and freeze dried. Just my .02 ;)

i have heard of some fish taking things like freeze dried shrimp and then refusing anything else, so i avoid freeze dried, but other than that the more high quality variety the better. i have found hikari to be the best, and if i could only feed one brand it would happily be hikari.
