cichlid gold v. ciclid bio-gold+ v. food sticks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Out of the three I have only used cichlid gold. I am sure that the only differences in the food is the ingredients and how much of what is put in the seperate food.

I like the cichlid gold cause I find that it tends to bring the red out in cichlids and silver aros really nicely. That and I am to cheap to spend the extra few dollars for the bio gold.

But overall hikari is a really good brand of food IMO and whatever you choose to use should suffice.

bio gold is the highest quality carnivorous pellet by hikari and has beneficial microbes in it. i have found hikari to be the best brand out there, and i cant stand new life spectrum. my 14" jaguar cichlid will take the medium sized bio-gold pellet without a problem, they are part of his mix that has 5 different pellets.

These would be the best for all cichlids. My oscar will jump out of the water and eat the bio-gold+ pellets like the killer shark in the movies lol (Bio-gold+ is the only one with microbes in it so I am assuming he is talking about these and made a typo) He loves these pellets and he won't eat anything else other than live!!!!! So, personally I reccomend Cichlid Bio-gold+

most of my guys never liked any of the hikari pellets. i had the best luck with the gold. i use lots of omega one stuff as a staple with good results and the fish seem to like it

Just go with jumbo sized NLS (new life spectrum) pellets...........you cant go wrong......all my fish eat NLS and all are doing wonderful!!!!

I am using Hikari to feed all my fishes, and sometimes I feed frozen food from hikari too.
I think they are good because my fishes are healthy and fat..:)

i bought new life spectrum and refuse to ever buy any more ever again. i bought one for goldfish and one for cichlids. the cichlid one claims too feed all types of cichlids (carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores) which is impossible. not only that but when i compared this magical cichlid food to the godlfish food, the ingredients and nutritional values were all exactly the same. so not only does their magical cichlid food feed all cichlids but goldfish too. not to mention they are way overpriced. i am not letting my hard earned money go to a companyt that not only cant come up with different foods for different cichlids, but cant even come up with different foods for cichlids and goldfish. hikari has at least 4 different goldish foods and 5 different cichlid foods, they do the research into what the fish needs and that is why i happily give them my money over nay other company.

Yeah I also prefer Hikari to any other brand fish food I've tried for my cichlids.

I was wondering what the difference was between BioGold+ and Gold. I guess I'll have to compare ingredients on the packages. Lately I have been feeding nothing but my Gold because I want to use these up first. As long as the Hikari Cichlid BioGold+ remains available at Dr.Fostersmith.com or at my local fish store, I don't see any reason to buy regular gold ever again since apparently BioGold+ is an enhanced version of Gold anyhow.

For some time now the old Bio Gold was hard to comeby online, I think it was discontinued for a while. Maybe because they were developing the new + version???

Anyhow In addition to various frozen foods such as krill, brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, bloodworms, daphnia, and various mixed frozen foods like spirulina, I feed Hikari pellots almost exclusively for the most part. These include a balance diet of Hikari "Cichlid Excel", "Food Sticks", "Gold", "BioGold+", and Cichlid Complete. From what I've heard these 4 or 5 hikari foods offered every week on a regular basis and supplemented with frozen food once or twice a week is one of the most balanced diets for cichlids.

Like I said tho, as long as the Bio Gold + remains readily available, I don't see any point in me still buying the "Gold". Unless of course I find out that there are different ingredients in Gold that are not found in biogold.

I really wish they would make their "Cichlid complete" in floating med and large pellets. Currently they are micro sized and sinking only. I hope they change that since they are arguabley one of the best brands of foods on the market and I'll continue to use them almost exclusively.
