Is Prime ray safe.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No problem man.

Nitrates of 5ppm is really low shouldnt that be safe any way?. I have a tough time getting mine below ten. Especially since it comes out of the tap at 15!

I agree

Ammonia-NitrItes-NitrAtes.....
NitrAtes are relatively harmless at lower readings and only will be effectively removed with w/c
if your current w/c regime doesn't do it then change more water more often.
The philosophy for keeping any Amazon fish is to remove things NOT to add them.
A good water change is also cheaper than using chemicals
hth

prime is a water conditioner tho. so when you change the water it is needed for removing chlorine, chloramine and ammonia from the water.

how about the mech filtration in your 404s?
if not rinsed/replaced on at least a weekly basis, they'll eventually become nitrate bombs.

I have steped up the water change regimine from once a week to every 3 days. I do feed them heavy so that is the way to go. I clean out the filters about every three weeks with tanks water. No all at once but thoughout a period.

Guess I was just kind of nervous about how they were acting but they did both lose a life long tank companion so maybe that is why I noticed a change in the behavior, not cuase of the water.

But everything is going good now and they are both doing better and acting more like rays should.

You should rinse the pads and sponges every water change:thumbsup:

no you shouldn't rinse the pads and sponges every water change, the longer you can leave a filter untouched the better. At least leave biomedia untouched and just change the polywool every couple of weeks. Every time you rinse biomedia, whether it's sintered glass or a sponge, you lose some bacteria.
