Whats the best thing to clean second hand tanks with? i got 3- three foot tanks yesterday and they need a GOOD clean.

I was thinking of Bi carb soda and vinigar.....

What do you use??

Cheers, Daniel

You got three 3 foot tanks!! i'm so jealous. I wish i had the space and the tanks.. ANyways I would use some vinegar or just a good scrubbing brush and some elbow grease.

For my used tanks, I use a razor blade paint scraper (made by mainstays for $2.00 at Walmart)(assuming they are glass), and scrape staying 2-3 inches away from the silicone, then attempt to use elbow grease on the edges. It makes them shiny and new....looking.

thats what i was thinking.razor blade gets right down to the glass and chops up the junk

Yeah i was pretty happy, the three tanks and a stand for them as well as a 5000lph air pump all for $200 australian....

Anyways heres what im thinking (thanks for everyones advice) ill use a scraper and scrape the glass (yeah they are glass) and stay away from the silicone and then give it a good scrub with vinegar

Is it possible to use too much elbow grease around the silicone? Will scrubbing the silicon with a clean rag (soaked in vinegar...as most silicones are acetic cured) too hard cause it to lift?

i let my used tanks soak overnight filled with water and a medium size bottle of vinegar. it helps to break down the crusty build up and cuts down on the elbow grease.

This is dangerous, but I use toilet bowl cleaner. It gets rid of everything, with minimal scrubbing. If you do it, wear gloves and rinse very very very very thoroughly.
