Smallmouth Bass?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have a smallmuth bass, I also caught Bassmans for him. Instead of buying minnows, we go and catch them from a local pond for free lol. Make sure you keep it in cooler water, 60s to mid 70s would be great. Feed it minnows, worms, insects, crustaceans like crawdads, and if you can get them to eat them, pellets would be great! Cant wait to see updated pics after there in the 300!

yes if u lucky like us the local pond will have minnows by the thousands...it saves you soo much money....but my bass eats anything you put in the tank...horseflies small moths..i cant wait to see yours in the bigger tank

Holy cow, I guess this guy is hungry! I just opened the lid, he's been hanging around the surface of the aquarium, and thought I would see if he would come up and investigate if I put the tip of my finger on the surface of the water or if he would be skittish and shy away. Well, needless to say he Immediately ATTACKED my finger!! Scared the CHit outta me! :WHOA:

Anyways, I fed him a few more crickets,(he ate about 8 of them last night) which he destroyed the second they hit the water. He litterly hit one so fast it knocked it back out of the aquarium onto the floor!:headbang2

This fish is awesome, definetly a keeper! :woot:

The dark lines radiating back from the eyes should get more distinct as it gets comfortable, they will adapt to floating carnivore pellets as a staple with crickets and worms as treats, A 6" one can eat a full grown molly.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I am 99.9% sure he is a Warmouth due to the coloration, eye color and the dark lines coming back from the eyes.
He is quickly becoming my favorite fish :headbang2

the only bad thing about keeping natives is the money you can go through buying feeders for it

I never feed live minnows to my (20+ species) natives. You should be able to get your sunfish to eat any prepared food tropicals eat. I would expect that sunfish to take market shrimp right away.
