I've never seen one in the flesh, and there are not many photos online. Some of them I don't even think are orientalis.

I've just ordered one, and I'm just wondering if anyone has a shot of their own orientalis :)

I've also heard conflicting reports of max size, anywhere from 4 to 12 inches. Anyone know the truth?

Cheers,
rumble

never seen one alive. but have seen quite a few dead ones at the market over here... Pretty small... Might be able to get a pic of one soon...

I have seen some pics with very strong blue colouring on the dorsal and anal fins.

They are often confused with Gachua, easy to tell the difference as they have no pelvic fins. They are one of the smallest Channa, fully developed adults have been caught in the wild at 4" but also upto 6". Endemic to Sri lanca

Enjoy them :)

Hi Rumblesushi,

there are diffrent Coloration Types of Orientalis i prefer the Bentota Ganga they have a nice blue coloration. the other variant is the Kottawa Forest which looks like a gachua.......
if you order them i will hope for you that you get the Bentota Ganga they are nice...... I had both of them.It is better to try to get Stewartii or Himalaya or Aurantimaculata Orientalis are ...... small.... :D

a friend of mine has a pair and since this weekend also around 40 little ones. ill drop by lateron and make some pics and some movies. ill post them later too.

Like promised, here some pics of my friend's channa. They were identified as orientalis but correct me if im wrong.
The male is very dominant atm cuz he is guarding the fry.

And the other male in the tank: he seems to prefer laying on the filter now as thats more quiet with the other male around being a bully...

As these fish arent mine, i dont know a lot about them but they are very cool. The male is attacking your finger when you put it in and he looks like a real good dad.
