S. Angelicus is one mean catfish that you hardly see come out to eat...always hiding in its territory, unless the captive breeding or farming has eroded it's aggressiveness. Nothing could come close to it's lair...maybe a larger S. Angelicus.

featherfin catfish AKA lace catfish...not as mean as the angelicus, but can hold its own..also not as pretty, but still looks nice :)

It woulda been funny though to watch the bagarius annihilate the poor cichlids...

I would recommend a giant bumble bee catfish or chaca chaca. The pictus would be a good choice, a lima would be fine if its considerably bigger then the other cichlids but not big enough to eat them... synodontis flavitaeniatus is pretty aggressive for a syno and would be fine I think as well as a sun cat possibly.

I think your going to want to pass on the geophagus with those other cichlids. The geo's stay alot smaller then the rest of the ones your looking at and are by far less aggressive then them as well. Maybe swap for some Rotkeil severums or Red Terrors instead, just my 2 cents. Geo's work well with other geo's and are alot more of a community fish then most SA cichlids. I've got 3 geo aereos and 3 orange head araguaia geos in with a small johanna pike, syno multipunctatus, syno decorus, and a high fin shark ~Trent

As long as it is significantly bigger and imposing but not big enough to eat them. If i were you, and this is a personal thing, i would add 2 limas if you have the room/filtration etc. I have found they are much more confident, swimming about more, feeding etc.

Carl.

My filtration is a wet/dry, it will do until they get larger. Then I will add a canister. what should the limas staple diet and what shoul i use as treats? i think i amgoing to go with 2 limas.

I agree with multiple lima's; they hunt in packs and when I had 2 baby ones 3 and 4" respectively they would corner the ghost shrimp in the corners of the tank and take them out it was awesome. Ghost shrimp work good when they are little so do feeder guppies and similar sized foods. When bigger I would say nightcrawlers and larger feeder fish probably ~Trent
