What fish reproduces rapidly and grows quickly to 1 1/2"+? Something that can be bred in a 20 gallon tank would be best for me.

Yeah, convicts would be a good choice.

i would pick convicts, since they lay eggs im sure you get a lot more than you would with livebearers, plus there cichlids so they would be a lot funner to raise. btw how can u tell the difference betweens males and females?

I had thought of convicts but how long does it take for them to grow from the egg stage to 1 1/2"? and how long will the parents tolerate the fry? also I have been looking at T bar cichlids, they are a type of convict but not nearly as common as regular convicts, what about them?

Actually really easy. Females have orange on the belly. males dont. If u look closly at them in the store Females will sumtimes have alot of orange and sumtime just a dot or 2 but the males wont have any orange at all.

Different people have different opinions on what the "best" fish to breed as feeders is. Some of the more popular species are convict cichlids, mollies, swordtails, guppys, and fathead minnows. Research them and find out which one appeals to you. Personaly I just go to local creeks and catch fathead minnows and crawdads! Its much easier and best of all, its free!

to raise the fry to 1 inch you need more than a 20 gal tank or yu won't get many to that size very quickly

20 for the parrents and atleast 1/2 gal for each fry u want to grow to that size
