warm water, shorten lifespan?

Is it true for polypterus? or they are already tropical fish so warm water wont effect them much, can be?

I heard that bichir can live in water temperature around 70-80F. some ppl do 85F

compare to goldfish, 10 yrs old goldfish is pretty old in here. my place is quite warm country, and what will be too warm for bichir?

what kind of bichir and how big is the tank? the temp should be just fine. they will be more active i think, but needs lots of water movement because warm water has less oxygen, but bichirs are air breathers so i guess it would be OK...

Actually mid 70's to low 80's is fine for bichirs.When i am caring for juvinile and subadult bichirs I have the temp higher then lower it when I notice their growing slow down.

goldfish are basicly coolwaterfish not tropical somtheir metabolism is sped up by the higher water temps.
 
higher temps will rev up their metabolism short term but having the temp in mid to high 80s long term may shorten their life span .. Same thing applies to other fish such as flowerhorns..they achieve phenomenal growth rate with high temps but it also results to a quicker than average life.

So anyone know how or what is the lowest TEMP tropical fish can tolerate? Since my electric bill is close to $400 each month, I was planning on not turning on the heaters for winter...:screwy:

caz I still cant find out that polypterus or goldfish will live longer in here.

37 yrs old Aro is the oldest fish I ever seen here.

Vince , just go by the recommended temp range for your a particular specie.
If its a community tank, low 80s is sufficient. I have mine set to 80-82.
 
in any fish warmer water is going to speed the lifecyle, this is why you raise the temp when breeding, or to increse metabolish, same thing with say earth worms or meal worms, they are kept in refredgerators because this slows down there life cycly ultimatley giving them a longer life, same basix principle
