CAN'T GET MY ARROWANA TO EAT

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i agree with every1 here
most aros are fed small feeders at the fs
keep em' eating those for awhile to get him nice and thick
after that starve them into eating pellets

PLEASE DONT FORGET 2 QUARINTINE THOSE FEEDERS!!

I JUST PURCHASED A 5 INCH SILER ARROWANA. I CAN'T GET HIM TO EAT. I HAD A 13 INCH ONE IN MY TANK AND BELEIVE IT OR NOT MY CAT GOT INTO MY TANK AND HE JUMPED OUT. THE FIRST ONE ATE THE FIRST NIGHT I HAD HIM BUT THIS ONE, IT'S BEEN ALMOST 4 DAYS AND NOTHING. IM FEEDING THAT TANK FROZEN BRINE SHRIMP AT NIGHT AND PELLETS AND DEHYDRATED BRINE SHRIMP IN THE MORNING. ANY SUGGESTIONS????:

did you do a water change after the cat got into the tank?

I started my new aro with prawn tails. It seems if they are right out of the fridge, he likes them better.
I peel them first, then slice thin "steaks" and put the leg side in a split I cut in the end of a small bamboo stick. Make sure he has no problem snaching the prawn off the stick.
Set the stick on the top with the lid holding it in place...set back and watch.
If I stay too close my new little guy will be jumpy and unsure. When I get back he'll mac out. In time he'll eat from my hand, but we got plenty of time for that...good luck!

no..i had just done one a few hours before she got in the tank...
AJP go make 3 posts, just do them here "post reply" times so your post total is 5, then you can see and do more and private message here.

I hope your aro eats, do you have a master water test kit? Test your parameters or take tank water to your local fish store and have them test ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph and see if they check out OK.

I had my cat jump in the tank and my aro jumped out, it's an old thread i posted and it was pretty funny. The cat walked on water, now known as Moses, the cat who swims with aros!!!!! Cats do that............they look so funny all wet.

n e way, test your water ASAP today if you haven't, do you have air and current? How much? give us the lodown on your entire overview and it's easier to help figure out what it wrong. tank size, filtration, etc. go for it.

Basically u have to ensure that the water condition and the tank environment is suitable for it. Are there other fishes in there that is eating up the food before your arowana get a chance to eat.
Aros like to swim around and observe their prey below eating them. Probably it didn't even have time to observe its food and the food gets eaten by other fishes.
I was told that Aros can even go up to 2 weeks without food and its still perfectly ok.
When the male aros have their babies in their mouth, they practically starve for weeks.
So don't worry too much. It will ultimately eat when it gets hungry.

AFTER MANY NIGHTS OF ALMOST FRUSTRATION AND MUCH WORRY..I FINALLY GOT HIM TO EAT FROZEN KRILL!!! THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR ALL THE HELP YOU GAVE ME!!! I WILL KEEP U INFORMED OF HIS PROGRESS!!!!:clap
