Well the title says it all.

So far im planning on getting a Eheim professionel 3 filter 2080.
If you think any product is better for the job, please let me know.

Also, thinking of getting 2 100W heating cables to have in the gravel.
I dont know which to get, I dont want to get Rena cords, they seem to have some faults.

It's 200x60x60cm or 78.7x 23.6 inches.

If you look at the aquarium at the buttom left you'd see what i'm getting.

I'm selling my 312 liters tank in order to afford this.

Also, advice in terms of convincing my parents to get this is more then welcome;)

I've been told a Eheim 2260 is good, but i'm not sure.
So between 2080 and a 2260, which is king?

If you think you know a better external filter, please let me know, also if combining 2 filters is the best, let me know.

I don't know if it's available to you, but an Ocean Clear Model 354 polybead filter would be nice.

Due to money, i don't think i can afford a wet/dry filter.
And i don't want a sump or whatever it's called underneath my tank.

Isn't there one single filter that could do the job and do the job really well?

Howdy,

I am running a 2080 on my 220 gal (800 L)right now, and it's a great filter. You need to use extra filter floss in addition to the Eheim pads to prevent floaties, but then you will have nice filtration. It is very convenient for maintenance and overall usage. It is dead-quiet. The two outlets are a great feature to improve tank circulation. Priming it is a charm. Outlets and inlet are length-adjustable, so that you can customize the filter for your tank. It is on its third year on the market, and I have yet to hear of a single unit that failed. But then, I am not surprised since it's an Eheim and they run forever anyways.

If I had to do it all again, I would get the 2260, though. For one single reason: Much bigger biocapacity. It has no bells & whistles, but it is a huge waste water treatment plant. The biggest on the market, hands down. Cleaning it is much more work, but then, I only clean my filters once or twice a year and can deal with it then.

Make sure to perform a search of this forum, entering these two filters and also FX5. Many members like that new filter, but I am an Eheim guy. Still, you should hear all sides of the story.

I also used to have substrate heaters (Dennerle). That was a waste of money. I assume you are planning a planted tank, which is what these heaters are geared towards. Don't do it. It did not make any difference for me, and regular heaters are just so much cheaper and simpler.

The most important factor for a planted tank is the lighting. At 60cm, you can still use regular fluorescent lights, however, power compacts would be an advantage. Metal halides are not necessary for that water depth, as long as you do not want to go Amano ;)

You are lucky that they allow you to have a big tank as it. When I still lived at home, the biggest tank I was allowed to have was 15 gal. If you asked me, you have very tolerant parents...

If you make a wet/dry it will cost much less then a 2260 or a 2080 but you said you dont want a sump under your tank so theres not really any avoiding that. Like harleyK said the 2260 has more cap. but the 2080 has more comfort features.

I hope my parents let me have a bigger tank....although in their eyes its plenty big. Its a 135.

Just wondering what are the dimensions of your tank?

The dimensions of my current tank is 125x50x50.
Dimensions of my upcoming tank is 200x60x60.

I'm still having problems figuring out which one to buy.
Isn't there a bigger version of the 2080?
