freeskierrocket- I found this on That Fish Place's website:

http://www.thatpetplace.com/LiveFis...h,severum/Class//T1/L90+0022+0232/Detail.aspx

It kinda looks like what I have right now, does your fish look better, with the red head? I'd hate to order another fish and pay another shippng cost ($$$$) and not get what I want.

Well i just took a closer look at my little guy, and i noticed very distinct black vertical bars, as opposed to very faint bars that go only partly up the body of the fish, and i did notice red speckling behind his/her gills............Mine is just under 2 inches, And I hear that it does take a while for the true color to show on the rotkeils............ by the way, I think I bought the last one at the store unless they got more..:)

I just bought a sp. rotkeil from that fish place in lancaster, pa. @ 2" for $7.50............I love it, and the coloration is great.......anyways your green is still very nice.......:D
We have to pay $10-$12 for barely an inch low quality sevs, and you get the expensive kind for less, and they are larger. I hate you:ROFL:

Sorry.....lol.......hahahahah:ROFL: !!!!........but yeah that fish place / that pet place is like mecca to me and my buddies out here in my neck of the woods..........1.5 hr drive for so good fish is way worth it to me!!!!! i try to make the pilgrimage at least once a month!!!:D

Umm, wow, am I embarrassed!

Jeff emailed me back and said that the fish I was sent was most definitely a 'rotkeil', an F1 from his wild caught stock.

I wrote back appologizing profusly, I really hope I didn't piss the guy off, he has the best SA and CA cichlids and sure don't want to be blacklisted or anything (can you tell I'm a little parinoid?):uhoh:

I guess the fish just needs a little more time to adjust to my tank.
:newbie:

Man, I wish I could just delete this whole thread.:(

wow the only rotkeil i have ever seen in person was about 4" and was for sale for $100! you guys are lucky! haha

Why don't you just order one from jeff rapps then? Even with the shipping it is cheaper then that.

Chad

there's nothing wrong with questioning to make sure you get what you paid for. I questioned him once about fish I received from him. I had ordered Thorichthys sp. 'mixteco gold' and 'mixteco blue' and the blues looked very much like Thorichthys maculipinnis. I emailed him and he wound up directing me to the guy that he gets his Thorichthys and several other fish from, Rusty Wessel.

anyway, everyone makes mistakes, even Rapps so there's nothing wrong with you questioning to make sure you got what you paid for. you started this thread though and if you really want this thread deleted (though I personally don't think it's necessary) then I will delete it for you. just shoot me a pm and I'll take care of it as soon as I can.

also, Jeff does have some nice CA's and SA's, but he's not the only one out there. ;)

While the Rotkeil nornally have the telltale red shoulder, not all do. What's been happening is that successive broods of Rotkeil have little or in some cases, no tell tale red. I had several I bought from a breeder in Washington DC that only had a small streak.

That said, the picture posted does look like a green severum. Just e-mail Jeff and ask him what he sent. I'm sure he will make it good.
