were both grandpa and grand ma now woot woot! ^^

Congrats! Here's some info for you...

"Someone once described breeding convicts as "just add water and fish", and this is pretty accurate! An excellent fish for beginners to start breeding, but just be careful what you wish for... these fish breed at the drop of a hat and will produce many young. The male and female will pair off, and do a mating dance that involves shaking their heads at one another. They prefer to lay their eggs on the inside of a flower pot, as shown in the picture, and both parents will usually dig a depression in the gravel around it. A breeding pair will vigorously defend their territory against encroaching fish, and will quickly push all the other inhabitants of the tank to the opposite corner. They are one of the very best when it comes to parental care, and will sometimes bury newborn fry when they are threatened, so don't be alarmed if they go missing for a day. Fry usually hatch in under a week, and take another 3-4 days to consume their yolk sacs and become free-swimming (do not feed during this time). Once swimming on their own, they can be fed live microworms. They will also take fry powder foods and then eventually graduate to flake food."

Is the convict on the pic the parent? If so they are still young, you're up for a ton of fun with this breeding pair !

BTW if you have too many convicts, my Montreal neighbor, you can send them my way my fish always like a nice meal... =)

hey thanks cyclopman!
wer do u live?! ^^ wat fish u have?

I have a house on the south shore of Montreal, in the municipality of Sainte-Martine. When I was younger I used to live in Verdun, on the island. I have a lot of fish, here's to name a few:

Electric Blue Jack Dempsey (see avatar)
Silver Arowana
Gar (shortnose or spotted, not sure still juvenile)
Albino Tiger Oscars
Snakeheads (pleurophtalma)
Shovelnose Cat
Geophagus
Green Terror
Polypterus
Splendida Red
Some native fish I got from the Chateauguay river this summer
An especially large Clown loach
and a few Red Bellies

Tell me, where do you shop for your fish? I've been looking for specific fish for a couple years now, never able to find it around here...so maybe I overlooked a fish store, never know... :D

Bud, the catfish will definitely eat the eggs if they find them. If you want to keep all of the fry intact, remove all other fish but the Convicts. If not then you might be lucky and end up with a few that make it... How big is this tank?
