u need to just visit the us for fish and then just go back.still would be cheaper this wayhaha without "connections" the cheapest silver i've seen was $200 from a private seller, a LFS near me has them for $500 @ 6"
I've seen a 14" florida gar for $3000

The price of "exotic" fish in australia is crazy BUT you can find some good deals if you have connections and look deep enough.
I found what i consider a good deal the other day.... 6" senagal birchir for $100, and a 6" Clown knife for $100 also, Both from private sellers.
In shops i've seen a tank full of 6" ornate going for $650ea and 6" CK going for $250ea, The crazy thing is their able to move them.... Someone's paying those prices

That is horrible. Those prices seem so outragoues. The only fish that you listed that is reasonable is the asian aros. That sucks man.
Those prices are like that cause officially, those fish aren't allowed to be imported into Oz.
Other fish like cichlids, loaches etc are the same prices as in US.
Six months ago, I paid the following for fish that were all in the 3-7 inch size:
alligator gar $500
rtc $350
tsn $350
silver aro $350
clown knife $100
armour bicher $350
peacock bass $125
Most of this I consider bargains for Oz at the time
Except for pcock bass maybe. But then, you might find a only couple a few times a year, so it was OK.
Zebra plecos, 001, 333, 002, 168, Panaqolus maccus, Panaqolus changi, King tiger, 3 beacon, snowball, adonis, royal panaque (normal & green) etc
most of these go for around $800ea in one store i know, The fish are tiny too, between 2 and 4"
