I had 7 inches of Rhombeus. The previus owner feed it with small lived- fish. But I would like to feed it with dead prawn. Is it difficult? i did not feed it for 3 days. it is hungry, but it did not eat the prawn. How do i do?
Thank you.

Just keep trying, he'll get hungry. they can go a long time without eating. i just wouldnt go longer than 2 weeks.

they can go longer than 2 weeks without food if needed but try something else aside from shrimp, sometimes certain fish just like one food better than other, maybe try smelt of fish fillet, etc.

thanks my friends, i just read in the piranha nutrition in this forum. i will using garlic method. soaking the prawn with the garlic, i will update the progression.

Wait a few days and drop them in at night and leave overnight, he will eat it. Mine eats live in front of me no problem. He is very shy about eating anything else in front of me. Try nightcrawlers.

How long have you had him for? When I got mine at around 5 inches he didn't eat for 3 weeks.

There are couple different things to try as well such as using fishing line attached to the food and letting it hang in the aquarium so the fish can always see it when swimming. I used chopsticks and eventually got my guy to take the silversides I was trying to feed.

Another thing to keep in mind is that, although they will eat anything before they starve themselves to death, is that the fish might not like prawns. Some fish like other things so it is good to try tilapia fillets as they are cheaper than prawns, silversides, smelt, minnows, or anything else you might want to get the piranha on.

Last thing to try is something called garlic guard by seachem. It smells like a lot of garlic and is supposed to mimic some type of algae or something that makes picky fish eat. This is what I used to get my guy over to pellets.

If he is new as well to your environment he might not want to eat in front of you, so try the fishing line trick and leave the room. I wouldn't leave food in for 2 hours, but if you put it in for 15 minutes and leave with lights low then he will either eat it or not. If not try it again next day until he eats it, as they will not starve to death if all other things like water params are in check

Just try him every few days and he will eventually eat, they can go months with out food as long as he was feeding ok before you had him.
Drop the food in with the lights off on the tank and leave the room straight away, try not to let any traffic pass his tank during this time and return after 30mins or so,if he still has not eaten the retry again after a few days.

grlic shrimp....yum! it's nice to know that you are smart enough to discontinue the feeding of live fish to the piranha. They are bearly nutricious and they can house harmly diseases. shrimp is more healthy.
