FYI most pits wont fight, thats why dog fighters have to go thru soo many to find one with gameness for true dog fighting. WHat dog has been owned more by almost a dozen american presidents? i was like most of you long ago. Hated pitts never wanted one. When i was 18 my roomate bought a pit puppy. My roomate was killed a week later. I wanted nothing to do with it at first. Long story short the dog lived with me for ten years untill she died. Never bit anyone, never fought anydogs and changed countless ppls ideals about pitties. Since than i have owned 3 more pitties and fostered many more. Some dogs who were mistreated by their owners should be labelled as dangerous. But the breed really doesnt matter, there are alot of breeds that can do serious damage to humans. There are sooo many pitts in the us. And the media pounces on those stories in a instant. Even labelling non pittbulls , pittbulls just to make the story. Soo if they were so vicious even with ignorant owners there would be a dozen maulings a day in LA alone.

wired diffrently? A special form of mammal I guess? Actually they are not wired diff. They respond the same as others dogs do. Maybe their owners are wired diffrently. The only thing most pittbulls are wired for is devotion. And a need to please their owners. All this kinda talk about lockjaw and wired diffrently is pretty stupid. Ppl should not talk about stuff they dont know about. Go to the local university and give a lecture about astrophysics you prolly know more about that than pittbulls.

I'm sorry, but why are they called 'pittbulls' again? what were they originally bred for? You think you can escape hundreds of years of selective breeding for a specific function so easily? The breed has a predisposition to certain behavior.That doesn't mean they will all be bad dogs, and it can be dealt with by any decent owner.
There are some great Pitts, I have known a few. There are some terrible ones, I met a few of those too, with bad results. The main problem for the breed it is attractive to a lot of people for all the wrong reasons, people that probably should never own a dog in the first place.
Then there are Pitt owners who are decent owners like yourself but seem to be in a total state of denial about the breed's potential for certain behaviors.

The only reason pitbulls attack people is because they have retarded owners who they are devoted to and the idiotic owners teach them to attack anything that comes near them. If most the people who are writing on here weren't so ignorant about the topic maybe u could actually have a useful post. Its a proven fact that their are more attacks by other dogs like german shepherds,rottweilers, and chihuahua's. Pitbulls are just so devoted and have the capability's. Wow some of u guys are just so bias and like to believe everything u hear it. I've never been bit by a pitbull I have been bit by 2 chihuahua's , a pomeranian, and a german shepherd and I never did anything to the dogs. Don't get me wrong I love german shepherd and stuff but I'm just saying all dogs have the potential to be mean. Not just pitbulls.

Pits can be very loving dogs they actually came in second in a most loving dog contest. And they can pull weights amazingly because their large muscles ( I'm not a big fan of the weight pulling I'm just saying they can do it lol)

Hello; Just as an extension of the thread topic and generally directed to those who have defended dogs in the contex that the dogs are not at fault. How do you propose that society deal with dogs that have attacked, killed and/or mauled people?
If you wish, include maulings on other dogs. I believe that mauling of dogs by other dogs is treated as a property issue.

OOOOOK. They don't "lock", but they are very very hard to make them release their bite.

PPl like me are a problem? Dude, really. People like me are why the world is a good place. (I work for the Canadian Government, you know, the country who's economy isn't in shambles?) I set up programs for the unfortunate/special kids in our area.

I was pointing out that they don't have a super hard bite and that other dogs have harder bites. Good job taking it out of context.

Oh, and 1 more thing... The second I can buy my house out of stupid Winnipeg (they've banned bull terriers here), I will be buying myself a Staffordshire Terrier. Love em.

They have a jaw that locks.... They don't have "jaw strength that exceeds most breeds by leaps and bounds". Where do you find this stuff? Rottis and German Sheppards have MUCH harder bites. Research/read my friend...

Why dont' you guys think about it like you think about your guns. It's seems more than fine for every darn American to have a gun (which seems much more ridiculous than arguing about dogs)... It comes down to responsible owners, plain and simple.

It's a sweeping and very broad generalization to assume that I'm a gun owner, when nothing could be further from the truth. I don't play with guns. And, I stand corrected on my statement about bite force. I researched it and found that Pits do have a slightly less bite force (PPSI) versus German Shepherd. But, your point about the locking jaw of a pit is only validating the notion that pits are dangerous. That does not help your argument.

Thats because you are uneducated on them and have obviously NEVER experienced or owned one. ANY dog can be mean at ANY time, its part of the risk taken when accepting the responsibility of an ANIMAL. Some of these people's fish on here are more dangerous than 99% of the Pitbulls I know. The person that should be blamed for a pitbulls actions is his/her owner. The owner is who allows it to think that certain things are okay when they are truly not acceptable in society, thus giving ALL pitbulls a bad name instead of the owners that neglect, mistreat, or wrongly train their dog.

My brother-in-law has 2 bluenose pits (husband & wife ) and I honestly have never seen more well behaved dogs in my entire life. You can ring the doorbell 2000 times and you will NEVER hear a peep out of them, they are introduced to new people all the time and you would think they had known them their whole lives. The first time I met them within the minute it took me to walk from the front door to the couch they had already decided I was their new best friend and I sat down and they both jumped up on the couch and just laid on top of me. They are just big ole' teddy bears.

OP thanks for posting, maybe it will change someones opinion or at least show them a little bit of light.

If I were to wake up tomorrow morning and was informed that," Today, I will be attacked by a dog," I'd prefer to not be attacked, but if I had a choice in the matter, I'd take my chances with a German Shepherd. Pits are fighting machines. They're built low to the ground and have one of the most muscular bodies of the dog world. They're gladiators.

second means another breed was considered better ( in that competition) so my point stands.
They are very strong for pulling, but there are plenty of other breeds that are much stronger and originally bred for pulling, like Newfies and Rotties.
I don;t dislike Pitts, I just prefer other breeds.
Anyway..this thread was " for those who dont like pitbulls !!!", not for those that DO like them
