First person cured of HIV

I remember I did a paper on this in 2007. The gene mutation was the CCR-Delta32 mutation. The doctor that did the transplant had a theory, and deliberately chose a donor with this mutation to experiment with.

In my opinion, the long term solution would be to find safer ways to transmit this gene than bone marrow transplants. It's disappointing that a couple of years after researching this myself, there has been NO apparent progress or ideas.

Maybe it's like the cancer deal....too much money would be lost if they completely cure it.

It is good news even if it was a fluke, dangerous, etc, etc. It will now give those scientists, who were probably getting annoyed with little to no developments over the past couple of years, a massive morale boost which could mean one of those scientists could find a safe cure just because their state of mind is in a different place to what it was. As a former military man I understand that a simple morale boost does wonders to a team when they are on a low.

To add a 2nd note of happiness scientists have apparently found a cure for an aggressive form of skin cancer. Apparently it worked so well they put the placebo patients on the real thing to take the study to another phase.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13664452

If they really wanted to find cure for HIV/AIDS... they would have already. HIV/AIDS just doesn't affect the general population in America like they do in Africa and parts of Asia. Take Polio... Polio was AFFECTING EVERYONE. The Government set out to fund and developed a vaccine and vaccine was created in very short time. ALMOST NO ONE in America is affected or has been affected by Polio since. Back then, Polio was very common in America.

If you do not know what Polio is ….http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poliomyelitis

People that are affected by HIV/AIDS spend upward of $30,000 per year just on the drugs to keep the virus in check. Find a cure and puff the profits go away. Drug companies are smart… make the drugs to keep them alive and “healthy” and make money. Find a cure… profits go down because no one will need to spend $30,000 a year on “drugs”. About 0.3% of America's population has HIV/AIDS. That is about 1,000,000 people.... that is alot of money.

Almost all types of cancer can be cured… you just have to find out before the cancer spreads. The key is to stop it from forming and find out why the cell has turned cancerous.

As far as I am aware there are no cures for viruses only vaccines, something to do with them needing our own cells to replicate which makes targetting them difficult, effectively targetting your own cells (if I remember GCSE biology correctly). The "cure" for a lot of bugs we encounter are in vaccine form rather than direct treatment.

its all about the money. they dont care about you just your money.whats better? a lifetime of meds or a one time cure?
