removed my calcium reactor and started 2 part dosing. corals looking better in 3 days

Clowns are often times favorite targest of pseudeochelinius wrasses...I know my mystery hates all of my clowns.

Firefish will also be harassed more than likely.

my firefish is alive. he came out of the rocks last night. i think i scared him when i moved the powerheads.

Good to hear...I wanted to add some scissor fish to my tank....but dont want to risk it with my wrasse.

Made a slight miscalculation with my kalk topoff. I wasn't adding enough topoff water at 600 ml per day, so I raised it to 1000 ml per day without lowering my 2 part. My alk jumped to 10 dkh and calcium is at 450. I didn't realize kalk raised alk that much. Now I need to recalculate everything. I think in my system kalk at 1200 ml to 1400 ml per day may be enough to maintain levels.

Yea, you will have this.

Sorry to hear it. Those numbers arent terrible, people have definitely gone higher on the calcium side...but I wouldnt want to go too much higher.

Hopefully the shock didnt kill anything. Keep testing and adjusting your system.

You are doing kalk and two part? I think I am going to do one or the other when the time comes. The only thing is that I think you have to mix two part, so using a doser wouldnt really work. The kalk you can just plumb inline with your topoff...makes it a little easier to automate.

seems like everything is ok. i am doing kalk and 2 part all on 1 bubble magus doser. it has 3 separate pumps and timers built in. what i was doing is making a 1 gallon kalk soluton and doing 600ml per day. then mixing 1500ml of part a&b of twofishes c balance in separate containers. 180ml of each 2 part and the rest r/o water, then dosing 200ml of each per day spread out over 24 doses. with equates to 24ml per day of each part. it was working perfect until i raised the kalk topoff to 1000ml per day. i was still having to add topoff water every 3 days.

so what i did was turn off the 2 part dosing pumps and left the kalk topoff running. last night when i shut them off my alk was at 180ppm(10.1dkh). i will check it tonight and see how much it dropped(if any). if it did drop i will left it fall over the next few days back to 160ppm (9dkh). then i can slowly raise the amount of kalk i add to the tank everyday to keep it stable. im thinking i should be able to add up to 1800ml of topoff per day if i need to without lowering saltinity. if this works i may not need to use the 2 part dosing at all. i filled a 2.5gal jug that fits under my stand , it should last for about a week.

the good thing is that my ph is hovering around 8.3 with the kalk rather then 8.1 . alk dropped from 180ppm to 173ppm in 24 hours.1 more day i think i will start up low 2 part dosing again. 12 ml per day should be perfect of each part.

i added more bio-pellets to the reactor about 4 days ago. ive noticed my ph dropping a little. even with dosing 1100ml a day of saturated kalk topoff the ph hit 7.97 last night. im thinking the pellets are reducing the o2 levels. im also running an airstone in the sump.

both skimmers are running at full tilt. aqua c remora and a tuzne 9002. as far as skimmate the tunze produces about 5 times the amount as the aqua c even with the aqua c's cup all the way down. im skimming the tunze a little on the wet side.

Yup...probably because of all of the bacteria that you are feeding right now. This is not unheard of.

Two things I would do...one you have already done. Blow as much air into that tank as possible...its really hard to over aerate...gotta watch that salinity though.

Two...run the outflow of your pellet reactor into the intake of the AquaC or Tunze... this will remove a lot of those dead "sloughed off" bacteria, and help to gas in some o2 and stabilize pH.

i took the phos reactor offline for a bit. still having issues withs coral stn. its very slow but no sign of improvement. water chemistry must be off but i cant put my finger on it. i slowly raised alk from 8.2 to 9.2 to see if that helps. growth has increased some.

my plan is to frag and move all my sps's to my 125. hopefully they will recover. im going to keep my finger leather, anemone and my zoas in the 28g. they seem to be doing fine. i will most likely move my toadstool and frogswawn to the 125 also but away from the others.
