Help with Jardini Arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ i agree if finding a tank big enough is a problem just build a tank or a pond for it. & what ever you choose to build make sure you have a top for it or a net over the pond cause aros are known jumpers.

X2...Don't let the bulk of a Jardini fool you...They are very good(powerful) jumpers!!!!!! I have a baby jar in a 75g grow-out tank for a year with no issues. I got him when he was 3" now he's 10" or so. Just have a plan to put him in a bigger tank down the road. A 180g tank(6'x2'x2') will house a Jar for a long time if not life.

Its an 18x18x48, I really dont have the funds to go larger, I looked everywhere for a used one I can afford, this was the largest. I read on a couple DIY projects, but I can imagine myself swimming in my living room if I did it... I'm saving up for a bigger so hopefully I can upgrade his home soon. Question for the arowana experts, I have been feeding him Tetra Jumbo Shrimp Freeze Dried Krill Fish Food this whole time, giving him a guppy or molly as a treat once every 1 or 2 weeks. He won't take pellets, no matter what kind, I have tried EVERY brand. Do I need to change his diet at all?

Be careful feeding your Jar fd krill. If you feed him krill be sure to soak it first to soften it up. Don't give him any more live feeders and don't give up on the pellets. Offer the pellets everyday--If he grabs them up and spits them out then he is almost ready to eat them. It may take a while for your aro to accept pellets so be patient..You may have to starve him for a few days to spark his interest as well. I've had good luck with hikari aro sticks. Instead of the live feeders, try cut up shrimp, tilapia fillets, night crawlers and crickets(my aros love all of it).

Good luck,
----Chris
