55 Gallon Balzini & Firemouth

IN an older post you said you thought an Eartheater tank would be boring, I was just saying it wasn't. :)

And, most Cichlids crammed into small quarters will kill each other unless introduced in a group of around 6 to spread around agression. Alot of them will pick off the weaker ones until there is only 1 left...so get more of them or a bigger tnak.

wait what did you get the female for, the balzanii or the FM? if the balzanii, arent they harem breeders? so should have multiple females for this very reason so that his aggression isnt focused on just one fish

LOL you were right! I love my balzini male to death he is very personable and cool!

I saw multiple people on youtube and other sites who bred just a pair of balzini so I just bought one female. But now seeing his reaction I'm going to go get 2 more next week while my LFS has them in stock. My tank will be cramp for about a month but I'm getting a 150 Gallon:nilly: Soon!! And that will be their permanent home.

Another Question... I'm going to keep her in the 5 gallon for a about 2 weeks because she's kinda skinny and I want to fatten and bulk her up a lil, or should I re-introduce her next week with the new females?

i would go ahead and introduce her with the other females so that she wont be entering by herself again after the others are all settled in, and yeah they should def like that 150g :) what else are you going to add when you get the big tank?

Thanks for the suggestions and I'm gonna stock the 150 Gallon with

4 Balzini- 1 male, 3 females

2 Firemouth- Pair

1 Chocolate or Black Belt

1 Red Terror, Salvini, or Texas

1-BGK

1-Fire Eel

Please, don't keep your G. balzanii with any of these fish on your list. I understand completely your desire to own these fish, but they are not going to work out together. Go with a bigger group of G. balzanii in your 150 instead: 2-3 males and 5-6 females.

Nothing in your tank will stand a chance with an aggressive Texas, let alone a Festae....
if anything I would add a few more Balzaniis to the tank with a huge school of larger tetras and a fancy pleco

Well what about

6 Balzini- 2 male, 4 females

2 Friemouth- Pair

1 BGK

1 Fire Eel

yeah the FM pair might be a problem, the bgk should not cause any problems with that stock but they are easily injured since they are nakey, if you grow it out first until its larger before adding it then it might be ok, but i know i lost my first bgk to a pair of jewels i only had in the tank to make feeders but my bgk wandered over to their half of the tank one day and they completely shredded him down to the bone so i had to put him down :(

i dont know about fire eels

and you could do the larger peaceful cichlids like the chocolate or something, they prolly wouldnt have a problem, or severums would be good, in the bigger tank you really would have so many more options, a bocourti would also most likely not bother your balzanii and they are nice looking fish...
