I just finished up my 180 Gallon build and was just browsing Craigslist this week and i'm getting a 220 Gallon 72x24x30 for a price I could not pass up. It does come with a stand, but I like building my own after doing the 180 one, I feel confident that I can do another one and a little better this time.

Just wanted to get some opinions on either 2x4 corners or 4x4? I really think the 2x4 will be enough, but just wanted to get some others opinions before I get the wood.

2x4 will be plenty strong enough just brace them really well. you can use 4x4 if you like but when i build my stand im using 2x4 because they are strong enough and cheaper of course. get some pics up when you do it! i love diy threads :)

The 2 x 4 is more than sufficient. Ever take notice of the stands by Perfecto and AGA most people make stands better then them.

I used 4x4 for mine just because I liked the look more. I notched it so the 2x4s going horizontally fit into the 4x4 so it only stuck out about 1 inch.

why didn't you notch a full 1 1/2 to fit the full 2x4? i don't understand why you would only notch enough to support part of the 2 by instead of the whole thing?

Using 2x4s would of saved you time, cuts, and would of made you stank stronger. 4x4 are used for posts not support. Try to map everything out and have all cuts planned before you start.
