well i knew for a while that convicts breed like rabbits. so i figured i would put a pair in my moms turtle tank. so i got a pair of 2inch convicts and they already layed eggs and they have only been in the tank for one day. 
i geuss convicts are easy to breed

Ahh, so they are probably siblings. But I'd like to amend my earlier statement, if you have just any male and female con, it's pretty much a guaranteed breeding pair.
Yup, I saw a very colorful 2" female and grabbed her along with a 3" 'male', next day male dies. So I took it back with my water for testing and so I got another male, now one with long fins looking mature. Next day they were cleaning 2 different spots: 1 for eggs, 1 for frys. They are already free swimming.
I just found 2 1" pinks paired up in a tank at LFS, all the rest are all in one corner. So I said I want the pair, soon as the net goes in they scatter, CRAP, so I brought home a female and male pair. Next day male is chasing female all around trying to kill her. She likes him though, goes to him but gets chased away. Took them back and said you gave me the wrong ones. So we saw the pair, guy took his time and got it. 2 days now no eggs but they are inseperable and picking spots.
Jewels spawn easy too, thats why Convicts, Jewels, Jacks are most common fishes at most LFS

I keep hearing how common 'victs are, but no LFS around me has them. I was in Petco today, and spoke to the guy who works there, and he says they can't even order cons. I asked him if they would take any of my fy off of my hands in a few months, and he said he'd be happy to, but it's Petco policy NOT to accept any fish from the general public.
I usually keep the fry with the parents for a few weeks, then feed them to my firemouth. But there is always a few that survive.
