community fish with cichla.. is it even possible?

Random thought I haven't seen done nor have I tried. Is it possible to have a small school of small dither fish such as giant danios or silver dollars co exist with cichla? I know how awesome predators peacock bass are so I know it will be extremely difficult but has anyone tried?

Just to have something else in the tank, just seems that it would make the tank feel more natural if you could have small schools darting between hiding places with the predators as the focal point of the tank.

No I'm not crazy, the reason I thought this was after watching bdericks arowana community video I couldn't help noticing the school of silver dollars and clown loaches darting around the tank as the massive arowana floated above... it was just awesome

Now cichla are obviously much different than arowana so I know it will be more difficult maybe even impossible but doesn't hurt to ask others opinions.
 
Hmm to be honest I wasn't expecting that answer lol.... my biggest cichla is a 10" ocell so I could do lots for now but wanted to hear from those with the big boys, so thanks for all who reply.... if silver dollars will work I will gladly build a good size school to try it with
 
Hoplias psicatus many different kinds of severum Uaru and ya silver dollers if large enough .I have seen a few wide bar silver dollers about ten inch tall definatly big enough not to fit in their mouth.....
 
I don't know man...i bought a lot of giant danios as dithers when my Orinos were 2" to 3", they lasted awhile but they ALL eventually disappeared once the pbass were big enuff. Usually if a pbass can eat it...it eventually will. I've never fed mine live, but i've lost quite a few questionable tankmates that i've tried to add along the way. I don't think it would work out to well in the long run. Maybe if you had 1000's of gallons and alot of hiding places... GL tho.
 
Stingrays will be the best companion for PBs. They will clear the left over MP on the tank base and PBs will not provoke them as well.

Smallish dithers + Pbass = Fatter Pbass

Small anything + Pbass = Fatter Pbass

Tank - Pbass = lackluster tank

Pbass size =(Aro, dat , rays , cats ) = OK Community

10 Pbass + 400 Fathead minnows = Priceless
