3,500+/- RTC Pond Build

With ponds, your best bet is to use bottom drains, UV's, and 55 gallon barrel sand/gravel filters followed by some type of media barrell.

I am building a 6,000 gallon pond that will have 4 S/G barrels,and 4 poly strapping materials.

My 1500 gallon indoor has 1 s/g barrel, and a lava rock/ bio balls trickle tower.

My 600 gallon QT also has a S/g barrel on it.

You will be kicking yourself later for not doing bottom drains.

I have about 25 beach ball sized lava rocks layin around in my yard I guess i could throw a few in the filter.

And yeah the plan was to do a bottom fed. Gonna have the plumbing run under the liner. I was also thinking about a skimmer but thats not really needed as long as i take the net to it every so often

nice whats going in that pond

Well so far the stocklist is going to be

2x RTC
1x Hybrid
2X RBP
5x Speckled bullheads
and a few koi. maybe a dozen

And if i can get some african chiclids to breed ill throw them in there as feeders.

Haha there hasnt been much done. Between work and this heat its hit at least 100 the past week and a half now so just havent been able to stay out for too long.

Heating is one of my worries. It does get cold in the winter here and cold enough to kill these guys but so far the plan is to get a thermal tarp and hope for the best. Might try a hot tub heater if i can find one on craigslist.

**** thats gonna use alot of power. My neighbor has a pump that pumps the water out of his pool and threw pipes up ans onto the roof. They zizag for a bit then go back into his pool. Thats how he heats it and it stays at around 60-70

Well had another set back today. Its been raining alot but today more than most. Got the pond to around 10x9 feet and 2 feet deep. Im about halfway there but now its filled to the top with water. If it doesnt drain out in a few days im just throwing the fish in. LOL
