i really doubt JL is as responsible as his replies on this post portray him, when you keep the kinda fish that most of us do, there is always that mistake or that miscalculation that happens, and results in a loss, the only difference between the fish keepers offended here and JL is, he is not bummed about the fish's death, he takes it in stride and moves on.

even the members who aren't happy with this thread surely have lost a fish or two because of a mistake or a miscalculation, its just that u feel for the fish, may be because of attachment or may be because of all the effort that was put, then again its just a point of view.

and no matter how many fish JL has, i am sure he isn't happy about this disaster

Exactly what he said. It was a tragedy, but why sulk over it?

Thanks for your understanding, guys! :)

It is a tragedy for sure, both the Arm and VATF were awesome looking specimens for sure. Still things like this happen, they happen in nature and they happen in the hobby. Fishkeeping as a whole is a selfish endeavor, all hobbies are. That's not to say that there's anything wrong about it, but lets call it like it is. No ones saving the planet by keeping fish or even attempting to. We keep them for our personal amusement, education or gratification, heck sometimes just bragging rights. Who can keep the fish with the hardest husbandry requirements gives the hobbyist a sense of accomplishment. Humans in general feel best when accomplishing things thru hard work or thru skill that others lack making them feel like they have a sense of purpose. I think it's a fundemental characteristic to try to find a sense of purpose, and I believe hobbies are just an extension of this feeling. So we try to mix fish that may or may not work or we buy delicate fish trying our best to be the one who finally properly maintains them and casualties happen. Whose to say that anyone trying to keep a fish that might otherwise thrive in the wild but often times perishes in a tank any more responsible than someone who risks mixing fish that may not get along well. In both instances the hobbyist is gaining something and the fish nothing, just another chance to die or thrive. No more or less than what they're given in the wild. Mixing more than one fish period in a tank is a risk, so where do we draw the line at being a responsible fishkeeper. We're introducing our fish to unnatural environment no matter how hard we try to mimic their natural environment. As well as unnatural confines and tankmates including same species tanks where they would normally have lots of space to seek out a proper pecking order and what they can tolerate. So to me the most important factor in being a responsible fishkeeper is trying your best to maintain a healthy water chemistry and appropiate as far as we can accomplish tank size and that's where the responsibility ends. Other than those two contolable factors it's a crap shoot anyway, just like nature. No one's ever accused nature of being irresponsible so why should we hold ourselves to a higher standard? With all that said I'm sorry for your loss bro. Those were truly magnificent specimens and it truly is a tragedy that they've been lost.

All that needs to be said is this: If the combo worked it would have been one of the most epic monster tanks of all time. That's why the true pioneers and innovators are trying to do something different while others lament and stand watching on the sidelines. Tragic losses for sure, but it happens :(

"JDM" tank right? Let me guess they were in a 75?

BUT THE FISH ARE SO HEALTHY LOOK AT ALL THE FILTRATION

honestly, people need to calm down on being forum/internet police....

THESE ARE FISH!

sure, you can be bummed that some $$$ went down the drain, but was it your money? no.....

does it make you feel better to say something about a stranger and how he keeps his fish? i guess so.....

bottom line is - whether you keep $1 petco fish, or wild caught rare specimens - they are just fish...

deal with it...if seeing a post like this actually bothers you because of the fish, then you need to find other things in life that mean more than a hobby
