Hey guys. Quick question.. Like a week ago i posted pictures of my loisellei asking if it was male or female.. All you guys thought it was a male. So this is a 120 gallon with this jack dempsey , loisellei , texax/convict hybrid , 7 Giant diano's and 3 tiger barbs. Im running a fx5 filter on the tank. So question is if this is a male jack dempsey do you think i should upgrade to a 180 gallon tank? There is one on craigslist i really want to go grab! So would there be in difference as in more agressive if i stayed with the smaller? I kind of wanted to go with the 6' tank to start with.

The loisellei is only about 3 inches.

Jack dempsey 8-9 inch

tex/con - 4.5 inch

Also would the jack being male or female alter the tanks aggression levels? Right now everyone gets along just worried about when the loisellei gets bigger.

thanks in advanced.

I would definitely do the upgrade.. a 6' tank would help spread aggresion and will make all your fish happy in the long run...

Definitely a male Demspey...the 120 may work, but if you want/have the money for the 180 then definitely upgrade. Fish will have more space and be happier.

Ha ha well.. Funny after each tank i buy, I tell the wife believe me this is the biggest one we need! Started with 2.5 gallon then a 20,55,90,120. Wish i could go 240 but only have around 7 feet to play with where the tank sits. Was looking into a 210, which i believe is the same width as a 180 just taller? All my fish hang out at the bottom and middle of tank mostly. Not sure if the couple extra inches taller would help anything besides extra volume. My poor wife putting up with all my expensive hobbies, fish, guns and cars! lol thanks for replies guys

I always find that cichlids prefer the width and length rather than the height.

Would rather have a 30" wide than 30" tall any day of the week.

6-2-2 is a nice size for the stock you have though.

Agree with above though, lovely male JD.

Nice J and I think the 120 is fine but if you have the money why not upgrade the fish will be happier and you could add one more cichlid!
