You can't tell phenotypically, you would just have to know the breeding line of said fish.
acsfoolmike perfectly said you really cannot tell. Some say they can ...I cant really...I happen to know a ebjd breeder in California where I picked this guy up from.
Almost all BGJD's you cant tell the difference from regular JD's. However, Ormed, one of the original breeders and distributors of EBJD, was able to creat some BG's that were clearly JD but had strong EBJD physical traits. They were posted on aquabid a few years ago. They looked just like jd's but had EBJD like traits and colors that was just phenomenal.
Most BG's tend to look better because the breeder took better care of them versus a regular JD. All of my BG's had bigger pearls, better colors, and grew faster than my regular JD's.
