Filters Marineland Model Emperor 400

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have one on my 55 and it works great. A little noisy but it has run dependably for the last year, outlasting an AquaClear 70 on the same tank. I swapped out the cartridges for bonded filter material that I just rinse every once in awhile. However, due to the length of the 55 you may need to add a powerhead on the side opposite the filter to keep dead spots from forming.

You would need 2 on a 55 gallon to get good results. I have an emperor 400 on 1 end and a canister on the other end of my 55 and it does well for polising. I have the emperor setup with 4 filter pads don't even bother with the media containers.

I'm actually using the new aqueon 55/75 HOB filter. It does 400 gph and my water is just where I want it :)

I have two EMP 400's on my 55G and the water is crisp! Suggest you add one more....

I run a 400 and a 280 on my 60gallon and the water is perfect. I found that extending the intakes all the way to the bottom helps(assuming you dont have sand). I also fill the grey cartridge with biomax. Fits perfectly in the slots

I had one for over 10 years...I ended up giving to a friend and it's still going strong.

I have noticed the dead spots during cleaning and just added a powerhead on the other side of the tank to help with better circulating the water. I didn't bother with the grey media holders either, just put the filters in straight. Thanks JC I just may add some more media to the other 2 media holders.

No problem. I also place a small sheet of filter floss on the tank side of the cartridge too. it acts like a micron filter. Gets dirty kinda fast, but it'll pull out tons of small particles. The extra bio was the best thing I did though, assuming you've got a bit of stock in your tank
