I've had my setup for a few months now, and im wanting to switch to all PVC plumbing. I currently use only a little PVC and a lot of plastic hose. Right now, I have plastic hose coming down from my overflow, and doing a slow bend so it can go into my sump. Can I have PVC come straight down and use an elbow for a sharp turn under my stand and into my sump, or will that mess things up? Or do I need more of like a macaroni shaped peice that does a slow 90 degree turn?

You could use a couple of 45`s to make a 90.
Less effect on the flow.
I suppose you could use some PVC electrical pipe that has that gradual 90 you`re looking for.

Sharp turns are fine. No need to complicate things. The flow rate on the down pipe is set by the size of the pipe and the speed of gravity. An elbow in your pipe isn't going to change either of those by enough to care. Seriously the flow would have to be mildly pressurized for you to see a significant change in the flow rate.

What is wrong with plastic tubings?

It has a chance of collapsing on a sharp turns.......Nothing is wrong with it....Except for tight 90s...

Yep, that is why I switched from the clear vinyl tubing to the black pond tubing. I haven't had a kinking problem since. As a side benefit I no longer have to look at the algae buildup in the clear tubing... with black, hopefully there isn't any.
