I picked myself up a 5" silver arowana at the weekend and so far the only thing I have seen it eat was that it has gone for a floating cube of frozen blood worm once, other than this I have not seen it feed.

What should I be trying to feed it at this size. Apparently it is wild caught, not sure if this makes a difference

I'm also a beginner with silver aros. I just want to share my experience. I got him at the same size as yours and it took 5 days before it began to eat. I was worried too so just give it time to settle and it will eventually eat. Drop food in the tank everyday but make sure to remove uneaten foods afterwards. He's going on 3 months under my care and is currently more than 9 inches in size. Growing fast and is now on varied diet. Good luck with your aro.
Sorry missed the main question. I fed mine soaked crushed pellets and chopped up uncooked tilapia and shrimp.

At that size you want to try pellets right away..Freeze dried bloodworms work well at that size too. Aros can be so picky and get used to one type of food, not accepting any other. Try to avoid crickets and meal worms until you have him on pellets for a bit. My aros eat everything. I give them a varied diet of tilapia, shrimp, pellets, crickets and nightcrawlers.

Good luck and keep us posted,

---Chris

Got in from work today and it fed really well taking bloodworms and some mussels. Tried some pellets but no joy

I have a 3.5" aro I bought about a month ago at 3" only thing I've gotten it to take is pellets but I notice they are very messy.

Try giving your aro smaller pellets or break your pellets up into pieces. They usually just gulp them down rather than chew them until the pellets break up in the water.
