hi every1 this is my first post as i am new to this site, i am a newbie at this and i have lost of questions and your help is greatly appreciated! i just bought a 100 gal tank on kijiji for 300 bucks and it came with a 2217 eheim filter system, whisper 60 air pump, heater, flourescent light canopy, and a maxi jet 1200 and a stand. i guess my question is...... is this stuff any good? besides chemicals and plants do i need anything else? did i get a good deal or did i just get jacked? also i want to have an extreme predator tank with just 2 or 3 fish with a zen like atmosphere with lots of plants can this work? also wanted to know if tiger fish and wolf fish are legal in canada (i no they grow really big but i do plan on euthanizing this fish as they get outta hand) if i cant get these fish what type of fish do you suggest i get? i would love a tank with fish that hunt pray even when they arnt hungry, also dont like fish that just swallow they're pray (arrowana is out of the question) lastly, im not too big of a fan of pirhana just b\c i feel over rated and pretty much all my friends have'em. my tank may sound grusome or contridicting (zen tank) to some but hey im just being honest in what i want and if you can help me maybe 1 day i can return the favor! thanks

i no they grow really big but i do plan on euthanizing this fish as they get outta hand

:WTF:

Why would you keep fish just to kill them because they are doing what nature intended for them to do (grow big)?

i guess i didnt really think things through with these fish but i really want them and if they are legal i am going to get them i am not getting them just to kill them but if they do get to big for my tank i either kill it and maybe eat it,kill it or give it away either way its alot better than putting it into a lake (which i would never do)

I'd say there are plenty of aggressive fish that would work in a zen style tank... for example a group of exodons... they're small + vicious... so you have a bunch of them and still keep the tank zen...

- EDIT -

If you plan on giving them away, then that would be the best bet imho...

Go online and research fish sizes or read a book on predator. There are many fish (predators) that will not out grow a 100 gallon tank. The wolf cichlid can reach 30 inches
therefore too big for a 100 gallon.

well if u dont want a fish that eats something whole then cichlids are out, but then u say pirahnas are out too... dunno what to tell u bro, other than if ur jus gonna kill it at the end save yourself the trouble and jus sell the equipment on CL and see if u can make some money

I dunno, at 100g I think I would go for a pair of oscars. If you want something that grows large, sell the 100 and get something much bigger.
