hey so i have 3 synspillums that are 4.5 inches and i need to sell 2 but i wanted to keep the best looking but they all look the same , my question is if i sell 2 can i expect 1 i keep to look just as good as the other 2 , like i wanna grow them out to keep the best looking but will they eventually all just look the same , or should i keep a male and sell the other 2 , how do i vent females are 0o male are oo i forgot , also if u had the choice would you sell he aggresive one and keep the calm one , what would u do because everyone knows im overtocked, thank u

are you related to Jeff Goldblum? your entire post is just a series of run ons and flip flop scenarios. Try a list format in the future if your going to ask so many questions.

Now to answer questions. You're overstocked so.... dont keep the aggro one in my opinion. As for looks, which ever looks great now will probably continue that trend into adult hood. You can't truly know which is going to look best without keeping them all and growing them out so just pick one and live with it.

well i know for sure when im done selling stock i want a quality synspillum, im aiming for a community , now the aggresive one is the best looking so far he is developing colors,
sorry but i was told that all the synspillums will eventually look the same since they are the same genes but i was thinking each fish will be different , well i will just sell 2 randomly and keep 1

Yeah, all Syns will not look the same. Genetics, diet, and environment will dictate how well they look. You could keep the least aggressive of the bunch but that doesn't mean it will stay that way. The other Syns could be keeping it in a subordinate role. Once the other fish are removed the friendly fish could become more aggressive. Adding or removing any fish in a large cichlid community can have some bad results. Sometimes the results are over quickly after the fish set a hierarchy, other times it lasts longer and more changes have to be made. Be flexible and keep an eye on them whatever you decide.

Synspila coloration and overall look can vary significantly from colors to body shape and even the development of a nuchal bump. Males tend to be the more impressive individuals in a all cichlids. Personally if I was you I'd seriously consider selling off all my stock if even at a loss and starting fresh with individuals obtained from a reputable supplier. IE: Jeff Rapps(TUIC), Ira(Wish List), Gage(Cichlid Connection) or Dan-Ye Jennings(americancichlids.net). You'll know your getting quality stock, definitive collection points and whether they are male or female. Grow outs are your best bet as you can make sure during their rearing they receive the very best water parameters, food and water changes. It'll take alot of patience, but it's the best bet for a successful comm. and the best looking adults. If you plan on keeping these though, you should wait and see which are males and which are females as well as which is developing the best. Just be aware in the cichlid world usually the better looking specimens are the nastiest. It usually goes hand in hand, dominance equals better coloration and a better nuchal bump.

well actually most of my fish are from dan at cichlidsof theamericas, some are form ira, and some are from freshwaterpredator, all top quality
since i have so many fish i have to either sell my bifasciatum or hartwegi , which would u pick

They all can't look identical now...there's subtle differences. If you're going for strictly looks then disregard aggression and keep the best one now, usually that one will grow to be best one later. Factor in body shape as well and not just color for appearance. If you truly can't decide flip a coin or a fish to make your decision....heads or tails!

Well then at least your starting with quality fish which is awesome. As for helping you choose which fish to get rid of it might help to know what kind of stock your working with. In general Vieja's are extremely aggressive toward each other, even those that have reps for being peaceable like your Synspila. As they grow they often become intolerant of each other in my experience. It maybe possible to comm. them with other cichlids not in the Vieja family though. I'll still give you an opinion though on the Hartwegi or Bifa, I'd go with selling the Hartwegi. In my experience they can be particularly aggressive even to other cichlids not in the Vieja family. I had one that tried to dominate any fish I put in with it no matter how big the other fish was. He was around 8 inches and I mixed him with larger 12 inch fish hoping to tame him. My Amphilophus Lyonsi is a pretty fair Alpha, once he asserts dominance he leaves his tankmates alone. The Hartwegi refused to be dominated though even when he was beaten to a pulp. I had to remove him and give him his own tank otherwise I'm sure he would have got himself killed. The Hartwegi is also the only cichlid I had to date that I couldn't even mix with growouts, he'd attack them relentlessly. In my experience most cichlids ignore growouts that are too small to be considered a threat, but are big enough not to be eaten. Yet this guy was a hard case of steroid rage or something. Nothing stopped him from trying to kill anything in his perceived territory. Though every fish is an individual this one makes me think twice about ever getting another Hartwegi. Nuff Said. Lol!!

yeah my hartwegi is 5 inches and pretty calm , he never got in a fight , none of my fish do except for my synspillum who for some reason hates my pearsi, but since all my fish are calm which looks better hartwegi or bifa, because i had experience with a 8 inch bifa who was physco and ihad experience with a calm one , so with aggresion experiences aside which looks better
