Building a 8x4x2 plywood tank and want to know what filtration I should use I don't want to use a dump and also what amount of water I would need to change weekly it roughly works out to 1800 l

A sumP is pretty much the only way unless you want to buy a ton of canisters; $$$

can i not use pond filters and a fx5 with just bio balls in. if i have to use sump i will im just not really sure how to set one up and dont know how big it shoud b etc

A pond filter and one Fx5 will not be sufficient, your sumo will need to be atleast 200 gallons .. Post a thread in the DIY section, you will surely get some helpful responses there.

you don't need a 200g sump for a 500g tank.:screwy: Alot of your filtration is going to depend on what your stock is. I filter my 450 gallon tank with two FX5s and a 40g sump, and have no issues whatsoever.

Two fx5s or two eheims is what I will go for. Will also use my two 305s thanks for ur help. What about water change what volume of water would u recomend. I don't need prime or anything like that because have a fresh water well that I use. It's just a lil cold
