can someone out there help me clarify some info for me..

I have this stand...

and I had a 110g glass tank on it for a bit, and have decided to swap it out for an acrylic tank I have layin around which is the same size.

Does a stand with an opening on the top like this damage an acrylic tank ( from the weight )? Should I lay a sheet of wood down?

Some have told me its ok and others have told me that it will force the tank to bow out from the bottom etc....

thanks... and sorry if it isn't the brightest question in the world.

I would add a piece of 3/4 plywood and then a small layer of foam on top of that and you will be good to go.

It may never be an issue if you don't but better safe than sorry with that much water and fish inside.

yea. i like to be safe then sorry. it looks fine but be safe and throw down some ply. it takes 10 mins to do it. :iagree:

I have a 55 gallon tru vu acrylic tank and the stand is like yours with the opening. It has been around maybe 10 months since it was set up, and there is no problems with it so far. I did not modify the stand in anyway.

Do what you think it is safe since 110 gallons is a lot of water. I am just telling you what I am using.

thanks for all the info everyone!

Wanted to make sure before my stocking order came in.

Yall rock! :nilly:

You guys are right. I did a google search and it said acrylic aquariums should have a stand with full support. I do not know what I should do now with my stand.

Drain, put fish in a big container, remove tank, put a piece of plywood with foam on top, put tank back on, refill, add fish. Kind of a pain but way less hassle than a busted tank down the line.
