New York, I think.
Hello guys! Attached here is a plan of an aquarium I'm planning to build to fit in my room.

View attachment 691969

I want to know what is the usual layout of equipment to be used inside the cabinetry of 1.9(L)x0.89(W)x0.7(H).

And can you guys give me a list of equipment (like what protein skimmer, light and pumps) you guys recommend for the aquarium?

Any idea if this aquarium is enough for a reef aquarium? Or should I go tropical?

I'm new here and also new to the aquarium hobby! I'm really curious and really need some help. I also posted this in the "Frequently Asked Question" page, and thought I post this in here too because I want to know about setup and filtration. :)

Hello and welcome!! Most of what youre asking is mostly personal preference and things that really depend on the stock you intend to keep. For reef you'll need a higher turnover, which means more powerful pumps and larger plumbing. I just built my 300 a few weeks ago. Built it to have enough drain to support a reef setup if I ever decide to go that way in the future. I'll simply upgrade my pumps and Im done. Thread in my sig......

My system is setup to turn the tank about 7x per hour. For reef you'd need to be closer to 10x ideally, but you could pull it off around 7-8 with good skimming

Oh my God! I saw your 300 gal thru your sig! WOW WOW WOW!!!

Please, if you don't mind, can you give me the specifications (list) of the equipment you are using? I just wanna know (coz I don't have the slightest idea)!

And also how big is the floor area of your Life Support System?

is this a salt water, or fresh water?? how much do u want to spend on equipment?i am in the process of building a 200gal with a 70gal sump, and am going to use a 30gal tub for plant filtration. most of my stuff is going to be built by me so it is going to be a lot cheaper than buying it but i did have to invest time.

@pshtex: I'm planning a Saltwater. I'm willing to pay whatever equipment is best. I'm building the aquarium with my brother. Can you recommend me anything?

Cool man, glad you like! The tank itself is a Midwest Customs 96x24x30. The stand is 96x24x35. Sump is a standard 75 with Tetra pond boxes attached to 2 Quiet one 6000's. Water flows through 16liters of Pond matrix. Check valves on the tank side of the pumps are 1 1/2" swing checks. Heaters are Jager 300watt.

Lighting is still evolving, but for now I have a 48" Hagen dual t5, 4 smaller 15w t8 strips and the blue lunars.

@Jc1119: Thanks for the info! Really great! Impressive, you know your stuff! :headbang2

Oh, another thing, I would like to ask your opinion, do you think I should go reef or tropical?

Guys! I found this video in youtube! Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsCRziOnuLI

It's 400 gal reef aquarium owned by @nancyj0! The video also has specifications (in its description page). Woah! I want to have one, BADLY!!!

DESCRIPTION:
Saltwater reef tank established 1 year is growing out of control! 150 gallon sump with jauber plenum, live rock filtration, and huge protein skimmer; return plumbed through 40 watt UV sterilizer. Includes both soft and hard corals, leathers, and various reef fishes. Supplement daily doses of Bionic 2 part solution and 800 watts of metal halides. Occasionally I'll add strontium and you can see the difference in coral tissue the very next day! The only other nutrients I put in the tank is a mixture of rinsed fish food (brine, mysis, spurlina, multi-saltwater pack dosed with vitamins and garlic, and sushi nori sheets for the tangs). Eventually, would like to pull out zoanthids and mushroom corals. I love my frogspawn, montipora, birdsnest and toadstool!

Really awesome! Anyone here in MFK have any more suggestions in keeping reef aquariums?
