Not sure if I have the right cichlid section either.

Anyway, I have a shot at getting a very nice 125 with thick homemade 4x4[?] base for incredibly cheap. Maybe under $100. Lately, cichlids have been growing on me, such as frontosas, geophagus, green terror, yadi yada.

In case this ends up happening, can I have some recommendations on compatible cichlids? What do you guys successfully keep? Can there be much species variety?

Thanks!

please dont mix fronts with CA/SA's. I mean there is a grey area where some CA's can mix water parameters with them but fronts are best in species only/ native biotope inhabitants tanks. i wouldn't mix most geo's with centrals either but it is possible. Ahhhh...who cares! do what you want to. Cichlids are fun!

My Frontosa does fine in my CA/SA tank ...

But anywho, as for stocking.. I'd do the following

3-4 Burundi Frontosas
2-3 Sun Catfish

Well it's up to you guys because I know jack about cichlids. As far as mixing where they are from is like learning french at this point. Just looking for suggestions for stocking to where my 125 won't look empty.

I would prefer Geo's over frontosas, forgot to add that. How many/what species? I like sun cats!

hmmm, i no nothing about Geo's, but you should definately try to get your hands on a colony of Guinacara!

Geos are a great fish, very active and colorful. I had red head tapajos in the past and currently have iporangensis, both were housed with severums, silver dollars, an ebjd and a nic. The EBJD and severum like to mind their own but never back down from another tankmate while the nic is trying to claim half of my 125 but the iporangensis have succeeded in keeping him in line. Never any physical damage just a lot of posturing, sometimes the geos will get just close enough to annoy the nic and piss him off on purpose. The red heads were less aggressive but also fit in well with the same stock.
