can you put a tire in a fish tank?

I think all forms of rubber are a no-no. Always heard rubber bands, etc leached chemicals into the water.

I would not put a tire in a tank or pond (have no info backing it up, just wouldn't) but also don't agree all forms of rubber are harmful. Suction cups, airline tubing etc.. are rubber based products and commonly used in tanks.

nope that tank was beast, but looked like a killer to clean

I see no point in filling the bottom of a tank w/ a bunch of empty bullet shells unless your tryin' to be the 50 cent of fish keeping. Usually you'd want to try to replicate the natural environment a fish lives in in it's natural habitat as opposed to a G-Unit music video. But that's just IMO. I'm sure tons of other people that post pictures of their guns in their avatar, profile pics, and just about anywhere else they can, thought it was mad cool Though. :grinno:

As far as the rubber tire I think it all really comes down to the effect of submerging whatever material it is and if it would let off any chemicals. I'm not too sure on this either but I'd definitely wait until you get a definitive answer from someone that knows there stuff before adding it.

sounds cool as hell actually!! wish it would work for you... but i'm gonna side with the no go folks.. i have no scientific basis other than working in a tire shop for a year... the leak tank smelled like tires, once seen a oily residue sitting atop some water left in a unmounted tire... for about a week... soooooooooooo, i'd have to say it leached SOME sort of oily **** into the water..

bullets sound cool as hell actually!!! sounds like a good idea for a nano tank!!!

^ gun hater :P

Whats up fellow fish heads. I figured this would be a good place to ask thing quistion. what will placing a tire in a fish tank do to the water, will the tire pollute the water. Simply asking because i tuned up a scooter i have in the last couple months and have a couple knobby 10 inch scooter tires that would add a pretty cool affect to my 75. Im guessing that some thing about the rubber or metal in the tires will seep into the water. But that is why i am asking you guys what your opinion on this is. Track master trail tires doesnt say the compound or any thing like that. As allways thanks for your responces. And tires are brand new never used.

Jeff
Of course its ok ,simply keep the engine and the transmission out of the tank, if not do oil change regularly . grrrrrrrrrrrr

if it's a used tire, all the oil and gas that you drive over every day can't be healthy for the fish.

Why in the hell would you put a tire in a fish tank?
