It's OK to be different.

yes it was, more then 1000 bucks so far :P but its worth it i love these guys. I enjoy watching them grow in deed! most of the fish i have wont get much bigger. The redtail black shark, fire eels and black ghost knife will defintly grow alot more but the serpae tetras and danios are defintly done. as for the opaline gourami he only seems to get fatter lol. thanks for the comment!

can fish see color?
In a word, yes. According to Dr. Reinert, "One of the best indicators that some fish see color is
that they have cones, which are the color receptors in higher vertebrates. Another indicator is
that many fishes are highly colored, and the most colorful fishes are found in shallow,
well-lighted waters, where they are exposed to the full color spectrum."
Based on testing, the primary biological advantage of color vision for a fish is being able to
contrast food targets against a variety of backgrounds. As a fly fisher, you should know that
color can really impact a fly's effectiveness at times.

im gonna have to say yes they can see color fish actually have very good eye sight

the fish eye
Two major lens modifications affect the fish's vision profoundly-its lens is round, and it is
much denser than a human lens. A fish lens can, therefore, focus heavily-refracted light onto the
its retina, so it clearly sees objects underwater. To vary its focus, the fish moves its lens forward
and backward. A freshwater fish is naturally farsighted, so when it wants to focus on close
objects, it moves its lens back from the cornea and closeup focus is achieved. Fish enjoy a
tremendous field of view, with 180 degrees of overlapping vision from both eyes. With their
swimming motion and eye movements, fish generally don't have blind spots behind them and
have good depth perception.

I agree w/ the other two post about the playfulness and how the tanks different. It's a nice change. I will let you know though, you're Giant Danios are certainly not done growing and will grow MUCH bigger. They can and will get to about 5" in length and maybe 1"-2" tall. They grow slow (about 1" a year) but will get this big. I've seen it myself. Have a school of dozen in one of my tanks. They're really fun fish. First time I saw full grown ones at the LFS that someone brought in from their pond my draw hit the floor, lol. They were just huge versions of mine. Look REALLY neat when full grown IMO.

then that is good news for me :D i wouldnt mind to see these guys get bigger, they are quite the fun fish to watch. especially feeding them they practically jump out of the tank everytime. Did you have a problem adding new fish with your danios? they always seem to attack new fish in the tank for a few days then leave them alone

I sure didn't. Yeah, mine hit the water surface like crazy during feeding too. When I added them into the tank they would just sit at the surface and swimming around frantically. After 24 hours they lowered themselves into mid column and schooled fine. Only other fish I added while they were in there was a Clown Pleco and a Pink Convict and they don't bother any of the other fish. They're as harmless as a fly in my tank. Mine do totally tweak out when the lights go out at night and all hit the surface and swim frantically. Not sure if all GD do this.

I like the ornaments, but I am not crazy about the gravel.
