How Does American Cuisine Stack Up Against Other Countries?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not a big BARBEQUE eater but I would agree that it is truly American..Two of my favorite dishes are liver smothered in gravy and onions over white rice and... salmon and rice.I'm not sure if they are enjoyed elsewhere.

i thought more about bbq, and now i'm not so sure about it

i mean, i'm sure before america was invented people elsewhere started cooking over a fire, no?

Yes, but simply cooking food over a fire is not BBQ, it is grilling. BBQ is slowely cooking meat, which probably wasn't first done in the US either. But, to me, BBQ is American because we perfected it by using different rubs and sauces and techniques. Different regions of the US have different types of BBQ. No one else in the world does BBQ like Americans. It is an American cuisine:).

Probably so but the sauces with all their different styles and flavors makes the difference I think.

edit..Angler beat me to it and explained it nicely.

I would make them some pop tarts. :D

And I don't think bacon originated in America.

Oh yeah!

BBQ is an American thing. Actually, I think, it started on slave plantations. The slave owners would give the tough cuts of meat to the slaves and they learned that slow cooking it made it fantastic.
