Pics of My Angels

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks.

Thanks, I've been doing 75% water changes every two days, and the tank is pretty over filtered (I'm trying to get them to grow as quickly as possible). And no, I've never seen one of those. Seems like the only breeds available around here are just the wild types, kois, goldens, and occasionally regular zebras. But anyway, I will add a few more if I can find them at a larger size, but for now, it's just these two (I don't particularly like having to grow out fish in a separate tank).

Likewise, and very nice pic, as well. :)

Haha why not? Angels are awesome. :headbang2 And yeah, I'll post a full tank shot soon. It's nothin' fancy, just an overfiltered 10 gallon with weird substrate (mixture of coarse black sand and fine play sand) and a bunch of rocks. I think I might change out the sand and start using PFS instead soon.

A 10 gallon? Mine are in a 360. Are they going to grow at all in such a small tank? Your Angels look great so your doing something right! :D

im not big into angels but they look nice! my lfs has a couple massive angels for sale. i think they are a mated pair too.

Nice looking Angles good job with them. I'm thinking of getting a group, the trouble I'm having is finding some natural silvers. I only like the wild type look and with all the designer colors they are becoming harder and harder to find.

Yeah, the wild coloration is definitely more desirable, imo. I had originally planned on getting two of the wild type, but the yellowish one (I think it's referred to as a 'koi' angel; idk) seemed to be the most active and healthy fish in the tank at the lfs, so I bought it anyway.

Yeah, it wasn't exactly intentional. I had planned on putting them directly into my 225 when I brought them home, but after about 10 seconds of acclimating, my arowana (which I have previously kept with much smaller tank mates) decided they looked like lunch and lunged at the bag, puncturing it in multiple places; so obviously that wasn't going to work out. I really didn't want to return them, so I decided to acclimate them in a 5 gallon bucket while I made arrangements to get them into the 10 gallon, which at the time was being occupied by two C. clypeatus (purple-pincher hermit crabs)... so long story short, I put the crabs into a temporary tank, transferred all my equipment from an established 3.5 gallon aquarium (which was insanely overfiltered) onto the 10 gallon (after thoroughly cleaning it out, of course), set the 3.5 gallon up as a crab tank, and acclimated the angels, for a third time, in the 10 gallon.

They were only in there for a few weeks before I decided that the tank was too small to use as a proper growout, so I just built a divider for the 225 and sectioned off about a 24x9x30" area, which is where they are now. I have drastically redone the 10 gallon since then, and it is now a planted tank with two kuhli loaches, my old zebra danio, and 6 ghost shrimp. I also bought another 10 gallon for the crabs, so it all worked out in the end.

Oh and as for their growth, they have both grown quite a bit faster than I initially expected. Both have grown about an inch in both length and height since those pictures were taken. I think it will still be a while before they'll be large enough to have the divider removed, though.

Update: It turns out, the yellowish one is a male, and the silver is a female. They spawned a few days ago and now have a small cluster of maybe 20-30 wrigglers, that appear to be about ready to become free-swimming fry. We bought a 36 gallon bowfront for them yesterday, so as soon as it is cycled, they're going to be moved there (I'm hoping it won't take long, since I am using established media in the new tank).

More updates: Turns out I had their genders backwards (yellow is female, silver is male). The first spawn didn't make it past the wriggler stage, but their current spawn is transitioning between wriggler and free swimming now (we have about 3 free swimmers and around 20 wrigglers atm). Their tank is almost cycled (it's been 3 weeks now); I tested it yesterday and got 0ppm NH3 & NO2, and NO3 off the charts, but this morning I had a 1ppm NO2 reading, so I decided to wait at least another 24 hours, just to make sure it isn't going to spike again.

Oh, and I have some new pics of them, but I don't have them on my computer yet, so I'll upload them whenever I get around to it.
