have a adult blackbelt and a sub adult rosequeen. just added them a few days ago and are probably going to breed. im going to be feeding the fry to my cat probably to be honest but i will grow a few out.

anyways....i know tankmates will have to be small smart and fast. im thinkin mbuna since the viejas need alot of veggies anyways and are used to neutralish water now. if not then cons probably right?

open to anything not pricey for obvious reasons. i would do loaches but i would fear they would get lodged in the cichlids mouth.

Mbuna shouldn't be housed with CA/SA. Some silver dollars should work..
this argument has been done many times. all of these fish are captive bred and will be getting their plant based diet and i will make sure the veijas can get enough protein as well. i dont have alot of tanks so i can actually take care of the two that i have very well instead of spreading myself thin. i will also provide rock structures.

mbuna shouldn't be house with strict carnivorous ca/sa cichlids that are similar size though due to fighting and diet. but the mbunas will not be fighting with these large cichlids lol.

mbuna are probably better targets then cons to be honest. any other suggestions guys?

As far as I know Mbuna are brackish water fish and would require a high ph and hardness to their water that CA/SA cichlids can't be kept in, nor can Mbuna survive in the water parameters of CA/SA cichlids. You need to do some research before even asking others their opinions. That's why you never see anyone mixing CA/SA and Mbuna. Silver Dollars though do sound like a decent dither. Also Vieja are vegetarians as far as I know at least primarily.

mbuna are not brackish their mineral salt content is unlike saltwater and alot of ca cichlids come from higher ph water besides all that they are all captive bred in neutral water .

guise?

You seem to know best...

I thought only tang cichlids were freshwater that had the requirements you describe. Oh well in any case its funny how instead of correcting me and helping the op you singled out my answer. Hmmmm, wonder why guess you weren't trying to help the op like I was, it almost comes off as though your interest is only in feeling superior. That's why I used comments like as far as I know instead of definitives. Still I could be wrong, just tell me why you didn't give the op help but correct me if your only reason is to help fellow hobbyists out. How ever I'm sure you'll agree there is a greater concentration of salt in Malawi water then CA/SA water correct? So what do you call this saltier water? I checked it out all over the place even though its not as brackish as say the water that Chromis live in its still salty. So what's wrong with calling it brackish to someone when I wasn't going to pick at everything and be exact. I figured it was easier to say brackish. Also enlighten me what do you call water with a higher salt content than fresh, but not as high as say where Mono's and Chromis live? So I can properly refer to it next time.
