I've seen plenty of female Citrinellums that could be confused for males just here on MFK. So he didn't vent upon purchasing--are you going to crucify him for that?
there is absolutely no way to sex midas just by looking at them. Venting is the only way to be 100% sure. I have posted a few females on here and everyone thought they were males.
Which is exactly the reason why I said it's dumb.

Male/Female tanks can work sometimes.
This combination I don't recommend to anyone. It just happens to work for me.
