I want another reptile.. what should it be?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No clue about thems.. All I know is that he was def an impulse buy. And well worth every penny!

Careful with a tankmate, from what I've read uros prefer to live alone, similar to blue-tongue skinks.

Just because I said I was getting another one doesn't mean it's going to be a tank mate..

I know they are solitary animals.

My apologizes, you had mentioned a post above it was an impulse buy, which usually translates into researching after the fact, including states of cagemates.

I'm a backwards kinds of impulse buyer.. I mean, I knew their general care.. it was just that there were a few things I didn't know.. substrates, and in depth to diet, and basking.. Which a quick google search at the store gave me all the means to pick up everything I needed. I did however have to move my other lizards into a smaller tank for him.. but they didn't need that large of a tank anyways.

I however, will not buy something I know nothing about. For example.. I know nothing about snakes.. So, I would never just go buy a snake.

So he's in a 40 breeder, which from what I have read should house him for almost his entire life.

My fiance is actually planning on taking out some of his retirement so we can invest in solar panels, and if we do that, it means I can actually have a reptile room! Or at least more than 2 lizard tanks. Our bill is $350 a month with everything we have running!

Uro's get up to 18", so I wouldn't recommend a 55 gallon for it's entire life. Their enclosure is supposed to be at least 4 times bigger than the reptile itself.. And I've read that 2-5 years is when they stop growing depending on the species.

My uro just measured is 10". Just had him out for an hour to play. He's an awesome chill guy.

The MVB is heating the entire tank, and it's doing a FANTASTIC job. I have it on the right side of the tank where his rock his, and it gets to 120F. The other side of the tank gets down to 95F. I put a towel over the top on the right side to keep some heat in. The a/c in my bedroom is not as cool as the rest of the house, as I cut it back a bit because of my reptiles being in there. At night the tank gets around 72F.

Thanks, Im thinking of getting a mali uro, it should max out at 11-16, I think the length wil be fine, but the width is a bit small than I would like. SO I guess it would be good for 2-3 years, then I can build a bigger one.
