hey guys i got a fishtank (47g tall) that i had to move and the only place it would fit was in a spot that gets alllloooottt of sun... and any ideas i algae control?

and i did research and didnt come up with any solid answers

thanks

Where does the sun hit it from? The front, side or back? If it hits from the back, paint the back black and then cut some aluminum foil to reflect the sunlight off.

Another option is to also put curtains on the window responsible for letting the sunlight in.

you could always get a dwarf pleco like a clown pleco or a rubber lip that only get to six inches or so, assuming your planning on making it fresh water. you could also put plants in there that would compete with algae for nutrients to keep the algae down and with a pleco you would have no problems at all. also i would worry about sunlight creating a glare against the front of the tank making it hard to see inside the tank.

I would say block the sun, at least partially. You can paint the back of the tank and the sides, or cover them, to greatly reduce the light entering the water, but the tank will still warm up. The sun hits two of my tanks for several hours every day, but only as a small sliver that I let get through the window. No algae in those tanks.

If you develop a green water problem, get a UV sterilizer. Our tank is in sunlight all day, and we got a UV sterilizer to clear up the green water that developed.

its getting sunlight from the front and sides... yes theres a huge glare most of the day :irked:. its only a temp spot cause im moving soon.

i like the plant idea alot but my fish would either eat them or shred them...
i think im gonna try a small pleco

thanks everyone
