Poll: Bare Bottom or 3m Colorquartz ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally think bare bottom tanks look horrible. Put some substrate in there. It will only be a little more work to maintain.

I agree. For minimally extra work you get such a better look out of your tank.

personally speaking i cannot stand barebottom tanks... they look extremely boring to me, and just don't do it for me...

I would say some form of substrate regardless what type it maybe is better than a barebottom tank... not to mention it helps store some of the B.B in the tank so thats a plus...

i have to agree 100%, no substrate just doesn't feel right.

3M Colorquartz, if still available in your area or Spectraquartz, which is the 3M replacement. I really dislike bare bottom tanks, too sterile looking for my taste.

I only use the 3M CQ or Spectraquartz in all my tanks & I've had no problems with sand in my filters, unless is was my fault for having the intake too close to the substrate.

Yes, there may be a bit more debris on the bottom of my tanks but it is easily removed with occasional siphoning or can be directed with filter outflow or powerheads to your intake.

What really sucks about b.b. is you can see the cabinet through the bottom glass. I like my black gravel about an inch in depth. All up to you though.
