I have a 150 gallon tank with a H. Psittacus, H. Notatus, Cren. Multispinosa and I am having aggression problems. I think the aggression is happening besause of the Pike but I'm not sure at this point. The Notatus is constantly picking on the Psittacus to the point where I'm worried about it. Some of the Psittacus fins are a bit worn but so far no serious issues but I feel its not going to stop. The Pike is taking the entire bottom of this huge tank and keeps the other fish at the top where the Notatus picks on the Psittacus all the time, the fish have no place to go because of the pike. Now i'm trying to decide if I need to remove the pike and hope that everything will calm down or will the Notatus continue to bully the Psittacus. I really want the Pssitticus to be the main attraction in this tank but don't want to have to get rid of everything else either. Any advice? I'm thinking of giving up the Pike at this point but its so Rare.

The Notatus is about 5 inches and the Psittacus is about 5.5 inches maybe closer to 6. I just don't want anything to happen to him and I also don't want to give up the Pike but damn the whole bottom of this tank belongs to her. The Multi is pushing 8 inches and is a female.

well i ended up removing the Pike and placing it in a 55 gallon solo. I don't know if this is big enough for a single Pike but my 150 seems better now that all the fish can swim on the bottom and the Severum is leaving the Pssitacus alone for the most part.

I used to have a pair of H. psittacus and a pair of sevs in the same tank. The sevs were the only fish that could stand up to the H. psittacus, although the H. psittacus could easily kill the sevs. Interesting how different species interact...

My pikes are currently dominating my 210 and causing a lot of issues between my psittacus and my Atabapo severums. Because the other fish have been confined to a smaller area thanks to the pikes, they are now fighting with each other.

My psittacus has always been a dominant fish and my notatus are total pushovers except when spawning. Funny how it was the other way around in your tank.

I would have thought it would have been the other way around too. Since removing the Pike this tank seems competely different. I feel kind of bad having to put a single pike in a 55 gallon tank and I can tell she doesn't like it but other than giving her up this was really the only option at this time. I hope she comes around and starts to like this tank. I have no plans to give her up but am not going to have all my other fish freaking out around her either.

Have you thought about adding some more fish to the tank, that way the aggression is more spread out. In a perfect world I'd say get more multis but the little buggers are expensive.

Or leave the multi in the spare 55g for awhile and let the other two get bigger. I'm sure they will have a better time handling themselves once they grow a bit. Plus a 55 is not all that small for a single 8" fish.

Thats kind of my thinking. It seems fine at least for the time being.
