As for the why anyone would do this... I recently had to move and my 135 gallon got a crack in transport which I didn't see until I filled it. I got the 40 gallon as a temp while I figure out if to buy another one or maybe make a plywood tank. I was very upset at the whole scenario until I stood back and looked at the filter pumping water for the tiny tank... I thought it was hilarious...
