Right now I have a 100gal tank that has 2 glass panes with a light fixture sitting on top and I'm looking for a new method because 1. I don't like having to lift those heavy glass panels everytime I gotta do something in the tank and 2. I like to hand feed my fish so I need an opening to place the food.
For my 10gal tank there is wire mesh that is used and it was extremely easy to slide off the top so I was thinking maybe something along those lines, but I don't know where to find wire mesh like that which is sturdy enough to hold the light fixture. I may just use a few wooden planks placed across the top and put either plastic mesh on top and then the light fixture or just the light fixture itself. However, the problem with just the light fixture itself is that water can get inside it thus I would need a glass pane the size of the light fixture which I do not know where to get.
I do not want something fancy/expensive or hard to build (ex. a wooden canopy), just something cheap and effective, let me know what you think, thanks.
