what are your experiences keeping wolf fish in community tanks?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've heard it happens escpecially with red wolves like the ery ery species. i used to have a red wolf that was degisned to go into my 4 inch polypterus tank. my wolf was 7 inches than. to my surprise, my polypterus attack my wolf. all I expected was vice versa!!! i had to separate the LOL. alot of people keep wolves with semi or fully aggresive fish such as bichirs, cichlids etc.
A handy tip "take away the aggresiveness" of your wolf is to the cease the feeding of LIVE FOODS!! Very crucial and handy. If your wolf keeps eating feeds and such, the wolf will have it's natural nature of hunting and killing. you wouldn't like that. Usually, LPS feed their wolves live feeders so what you want to do is the starve your wolf until it'll accept dead food and pellets. it won't die from starving. i'm pretty sure you've already done this step. Ohter than the ery ery, common wolve of the hopalias family and beyond are extremely hard or impossible to have tankmates. i've seen a video of a large common wolf in a huge monster tank with monster fish like arowana, and pbass. the wolf would even lety his owner pet him! I wouldn't take the chance though.

I have no idea.

To me it would be like leaving a running chainsaw in a room full of people for an extended period of time. No matter how careful everyone is, somebody is bound to get hurt sooner or later. :)

I got him off feeders 2 days ago I might do this for 2 more weeks and try and out a guppy with him and see what happens

A strict diet of pellets and shrimp is what I used to do. i used omega 3 cichlid pellets I believe. You should train him at least 2 months to show full results. i trained my red wolf since he was a baby!

I agree. i can gueerentee your fish's safety especially for a common wolf. This mainly works for the red wolf. One day, your wolf will be "buddies with your fish, the next he'll go rambo and it's all too late.

Can't say you don't enjoy watching rambo though Haha

Im doing fine with mine....my old roommate and I housed 4 babies and raised them to be big enough with everything else. I moved so I have mine in a 110g with a dorado, endli bichir, jag, jade goby, emporer and a albino sucker. I have never ran into any problems with him ( unless someone goes into his corner and snaps back but doesnt do damage ).

i have my red wolf in a 75 with a pike and albino frog and hes fine. I had a foot long mala in a community for almost a year with no problems except for a fish getting too close hear and there but no deaths
