Will the algaecide kill my water plants? I have water hyacinth, some vining aquatic plants, and a water lily in the pond. Is there a certain dosage or something? I really don't want the plants to die but the algae in my pond is RIDICULOUS!:nilly: I have to see my RTC too feed it and the algae makes the task harder then it already was.

Get a UV sterilizer. That will kill the algae but not your plant.

The UV sterilizer will only kill the single cell algae(green water). It will not kill the string algae. You have to use barley hay, the barley extract, Algaefix, or the related chemical algae control. The chemical works very well but it is toxic to human and domestic animal. Toxic in terms of what, I don't know. That's what the warning says. The barley extract works fairly well but not as fast as the chemical. It is also more expensive. The barley hay take to long to work. It may take a month or so to work. The barley has a natural enzyme that retards the string algae growth. The barley will not hurt the pond plants. The chemical algae control will turn the pond plants yellow if too much is put in. You should follow the instruction and you will be OK. The chemical algae control requires the pond to have aeration. That means from a waterfall or air pump. Like in any situation, you should test your water to see if it needs fixing before dosing it with any chemical. Good Luck.
